Tanker Hit by Projectiles Near Doha

(MENAFN) A tanker was struck by two projectiles approximately 17 nautical miles north of Doha, Qatar, resulting in damage to the vessel’s hull above the waterline, according to the UKMTO (UK Office of Maritime Trade Operations) early Wednesday.

In a subsequent alert, UKMTO reported that one of the projectiles ignited a fire onboard, which has now been extinguished. The second projectile remains unexploded inside the vessel’s engine room and is currently under inspection by the appropriate authorities.

No injuries have been reported as officials investigate both the type of projectiles used and the circumstances of the incident. The agency has urged ships passing through the area to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious behavior.

This incident occurs against the backdrop of increasing regional tension, as the US and Israel have conducted airstrikes on Iran since February 28, resulting in over 1,340 fatalities, according to Iranian authorities.

In response, Iran has carried out drone and missile attacks targeting Israel, as well as Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf nations hosting US military installations.
