'Vertigo' Star Kim Novak Doesn't Want Sydney Sweeney To Portray Her On Screen

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Kim Novak isn't too happy with the casting for Scandalous!, a biopic based on the relationship between her and the late singer-actor Sammy Davis Jr.

The veteran actress-best known for her roles in Alfred Hitchcock's psychological thriller cult classic Vertigo (1958), The Man With the Golden Arm, among other cult classics-has criticised the Euphoria and The Housemaid star Sydney Sweeney playing her in the biopic.

"I would have never approved," Novak, 93, said in an interview with The Times of London.

Novak's apprehension stems from the fact that her relationship with Davis Jr. was much more than mutual attraction as they had a "lot in common".

"There's no way it wouldn't be a (romantic) relationship because Sydney Sweeney looks (that way) all the time," Novak told the publication. "She was totally wrong to play me."

Scandalous!, directed by Colman Domingo in his debut behind the camera, stars David Jonsson as Davis Jr. The movie is yet to begin production, according to Entertainment Weekly.

Sweeney, 28, who sparked a controversy last year by appearing in an advertisement for American Eagle with alleged racist undertones, is yet to comment.

What Sweeney had said of Novak

In an interview to People in October last year, Sweeney said she was excited to meet Novak ahead of filming for Scandalous!, adding that her life remains relevant today.

"I'm incredibly honoured to be bringing Kim to life. I mean, she is such an amazing actress," Sweeney told the magazine during the premiere of her latest film, Christy, at the AFI Fest 2025.

"I think her story is still very relevant today in that she dealt with Hollywood and scrutiny with her relationships and her own private life and the control of her image," Sweeney, who also appears in The Devil Wears Prada 2, said. "And I think that for me, I relate to it in a lot of different ways."

Novak and Davis first met in 1956 while on The Steve Allen Show and saw each other over the following year. The relationship came to a halt when Novak later denied that they were planning to marry.
