UAE Air Defenses Respond to Missile, Drone Threats in Sharjah
(MENAFN) The United Arab Emirates reported that its air defense systems are actively responding to missile and drone threats, confirming a drone strike that targeted a facility in Sharjah.
The UAE Defense Ministry stated through social media platform X that its air defenses were countering incoming “missiles and UAV threats,” noting that the noises heard across the country were caused by ongoing interception efforts.
In a related update, the Sharjah Government Media Bureau said authorities were addressing an incident on Monday involving a drone that struck the administrative building of Thuraya Telecommunications Company in the emirate’s central region.
The bureau indicated that the drone originated from Iran and confirmed that no injuries were reported. Officials also urged the public to avoid spreading rumors and to rely exclusively on official information sources.
The alert comes amid heightened regional tensions following an air offensive by the US and Israel against Iran on Feb. 28, which has reportedly killed over 1,340 people, including then-Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
In response, Tehran has launched drone and missile attacks targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf nations hosting US military forces, resulting in casualties, damage to infrastructure, and disruptions to global markets and air travel.
