Eight Countries Slam Israeli Restrictions on Religious Worship in Jerusalem
(MENAFN) On Monday, eight nations, including Türkiye, issued a strong condemnation of Israeli measures that limit religious practices in Jerusalem, cautioning that ongoing restrictions pose risks to both faith freedoms and regional peace.
The foreign ministers from Türkiye, Egypt, Jordan, Indonesia, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates jointly criticized Israel for its persistent curbs on worship for Muslims and Christians in occupied Jerusalem, particularly the blocking of Muslim worshippers from entering Al-Aqsa Mosque.
They reiterated their firm opposition to any Israeli efforts to "alter" the established legal and historical status of sacred sites belonging to Muslims and Christians in the city.
"These continued Israeli measures constitute a flagrant violation of international law, including international humanitarian law, as well as of the existing legal and historical status quo, and represent an infringement on the unrestricted right of access to places of worship," the statement read.
The top diplomats stressed their "absolute rejection of the illegal and restrictive" actions imposed by Israel on religious communities in Jerusalem, highlighting instances where Christians have been prevented from freely entering the Church of the Holy Sepulchre to carry out their religious practices.
