UAE Counters Drone, Missile Threats Amid Regional Tensions
(MENAFN) The United Arab Emirates reported that its air defense systems are actively countering missile and drone threats after authorities confirmed a drone attack targeting a facility in Sharjah.
According to a statement from the UAE Defense Ministry on social media platform X, air defenses were “responding to incoming ‘missiles and UAV threats,’” and the noises heard across the country were linked to the ongoing interception operations.
In a related update, the Sharjah Government Media Bureau confirmed that officials were managing an incident on Monday involving a drone strike on the administrative building of Thuraya Telecommunications Company in the emirate’s central area. The bureau noted that the drone originated from Iran and emphasized that no casualties were reported.
Authorities urged residents to avoid spreading rumors and to rely solely on official communications for updates.
The incident comes amid heightened regional alert following the US and Israel’s air offensive against Iran on February 28, which has reportedly killed over 1,340 people, including Iran’s then-Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. In response, Tehran has conducted drone and missile attacks targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf nations hosting US military forces, resulting in casualties, infrastructure damage, and disruptions to global markets and air travel.
