UKMTO Reports Tanker Hit by Unknown Projectile Near Dubai
(MENAFN) The UK Office of Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported on Monday that a tanker was struck by an unidentified projectile 31 nautical miles northwest of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.
According to the UKMTO, the vessel’s security officer confirmed that the projectile hit the tanker on its starboard side, causing a fire on board. “The crew are accounted for and safe. No environmental impact has been reported,” the office added.
An investigation into the incident is currently underway.
The attack occurred amid heightened tensions in the Middle East following a large-scale US-Israeli offensive against Iran that began on Feb. 28, reportedly killing more than 1,340 people, including the country’s then-Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. In response, Iran has launched drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, as well as Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf states hosting US military assets.
