MJ (Thinus) Booysen is a professor in the Faculty of Engineering at Stellenbosch University, where he has worked since 2009. Prior to this, he gained international industry experience in the aerospace and automotive sectors with SunSpace, Rolls-Royce, Boeing, BMW and Jaguar Land Rover. His research focuses on energy and transport, particularly paratransit in sub-Saharan Africa. He directs the Stellenbosch University Electric Mobility Lab, is a founder of Bridg-iot, and co-created Geasy and Count Dropula. He is a senior member of the IEEE, member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (MIET), a Chartered Engineer (CEng) with the Engineering Council UK, and a Professional Engineer (PrEng) with the Engineering Council of South Africa.
