Zelensky Presents Orthodox Easter Ceasefire Proposal to Russia

(MENAFN) Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Monday that Kyiv is ready to implement a temporary ceasefire with Russia during the Orthodox Easter period, signaling a potential step toward de-escalation amid ongoing hostilities.

"We are ready for a ceasefire during the Easter holidays," Zelensky was quoted as saying by a news agency.

He stressed that Ukraine is open to any solution to end the hostilities "which preserves the country's dignity and independence," including a comprehensive ceasefire and measures to prevent strikes on energy infrastructure, which have caused significant civilian disruption.

Orthodox Easter falls on April 12 this year for both Ukraine and Russia, making the timing of the proposal particularly notable.
