Floods Death Toll Surpasses One Hundred in Kenya

(MENAFN) Floods fueled by relentless heavy rains have claimed at least 110 lives across Kenya, authorities confirmed Sunday.

The Ministry of Interior and National Administration reported that more than 30 counties have been hit by flooding and related hazards, leaving communities struggling and critical infrastructure badly damaged.

"Nairobi has the highest number of deaths at 37, followed by the Eastern region with 26 and the Rift Valley region with 14, among others," the ministry said in a statement issued Sunday in Nairobi, the Kenyan capital.

Ongoing torrential rains have rendered numerous roads impassable and severely damaged several bridges, complicating rescue efforts and limiting access to the hardest-hit areas.

Emergency teams are actively responding on the ground, while the government has urged residents in flood-prone zones to remain alert and adhere to official safety advisories as heavy rains persist.
