Israel Says It Shot Down Two Yemen Drones
(MENAFN) The Israeli military announced early Monday it had successfully intercepted two drones launched from Yemen, the latest hostile incursion as the region edges deeper into open warfare.
Israeli military spokeswoman Ella Waweya confirmed the interceptions were carried out within the preceding hour by the Israeli Air Force. Prior to the official statement, Israeli media outlets had reported air raid sirens blaring across the southern Red Sea resort city of Eilat amid warnings of approaching aerial threats. No further operational details were disclosed.
The announcement followed a separate claim by Yemen's Houthi movement, which stated it had executed two strikes against sensitive military installations in southern Israel, deploying both cruise missiles and drones.
The exchange marks the latest chapter in a rapidly deteriorating regional conflict that ignited after Israel and the US launched a major offensive against Iran on Feb. 28. That campaign has since claimed more than 1,340 lives, among them then-Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
