Pope Leo XIV Calls for Peace
(MENAFN) Pope Leo XIV cautioned on Sunday that no individual should invoke Jesus as a rationale for conflict, emphasizing his firm opposition to violence and those who engage in it.
During the Palm Sunday service held at St. Peter’s Square, as reported by Vatican News, the pope declared, “Jesus is the King of Peace, who rejects war, whom no one can use to justify war,” reinforcing his message of nonviolence.
He further stressed that Jesus “does not listen to the prayers of those who wage war, but rejects them,” underscoring the incompatibility between faith and acts of aggression.
Encouraging unity and reconciliation, he urged, “Lay down your weapons! Remember that you are brothers and sisters!”
In addition, the pope offered prayers for those affected by violence. Invoking Holy Mary, he said, “Holy Mary, woman of the third day, grant us the certainty that, in spite of all, death will no longer hold sway over us; that the injustices of peoples are numbered; that the flashes of war are fading into the twilight; that the sufferings of the poor are breathing their last,” expressing hope for an end to suffering and injustice.
