UAE Diplomat Says Solution To Iran Strikes Must Include Reparations, Stop Future Violations

As the US-Iran-Israel war enters its 30th day, Dr Anwar Gargash, Diplomatic Adviser to the UAE President has called for firm guarantees and reparations in any potential political resolution involving Iran.

In a statement shared on social media platform X, Gargash stressed that any solution addressing what he described as "Iranian aggression against Arab Gulf states" must include clear safeguards to prevent future violations and uphold the principle of non-aggression. He also emphasised the need for reparations for attacks targeting civilians and vital infrastructure.

Gargash further accused Iran of misleading its neighbours about its intentions prior to the outbreak of hostilities, saying: "Iran deceived its neighbors about its intentions before the war and revealed premeditated aggression despite their sincere efforts to avoid it."

He added that these measures are essential in confronting what he described as "primary threat to the security of the Arab Gulf."

11 deaths in UAE since February 28

Since Iranian attacks began on February 28, the UAE has reported 11 deaths, including two members of the Armed Forces killed while performing their national duty and a Moroccan civilian contracted by the Armed Forces. Eight other fatalities were reported among Pakistani, Nepali, Bangladeshi, Palestinian and Indian nationals.

The attacks also resulted in 178 injuries, ranging from minor to severe. The UAE's air defence systems have intercepted 414 ballistic missiles, 15 cruise missiles and 1,914 drones.

The injured included citizens of the UAE, Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia, the Philippines, Pakistan, Iran, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Azerbaijan, Yemen, Uganda, Eritrea, Lebanon, Afghanistan, Bahrain, Comoros, Türkiye, Iraq, Nepal, Nigeria, Oman, Jordan, Palestine, Ghana, Indonesia, Sweden and Tunisia.

The Ministry of Defence affirmed that it remains fully prepared and ready to deal with any threats and will firmly confront anything that aims to undermine the security of the country, in a manner that ensures the protection of its sovereignty, security and stability and safeguards its interests and national capabilities.
