France Foils Terror Attempt at Bank of America in Paris
(MENAFN) French anti-terrorism prosecutors have launched an investigation following a foiled attack on a Bank of America building in Paris, as stated by reports.
Authorities arrested a man overnight Friday after he allegedly tried to ignite an explosive device outside the building. The suspect was intercepted with a lighter while attempting to set off a container filled with an unidentified liquid and a firecracker that had been placed in front of the premises. A second individual reportedly fled the scene.
According to reports, the suspect told police he had been brought to the location and recruited via the Snapchat app, with a promised payment of €600 ($692). Sources indicate he claims to have been born in 2009 and is of Senegalese descent.
The National Anti-Terrorist Prosecutor’s Office confirmed it is investigating multiple offenses, including attempted damage by fire or other dangerous means in connection with a terrorist enterprise, manufacturing incendiary or explosive devices, and terrorist criminal conspiracy.
French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez lauded the swift police response, noting it “made it possible to thwart a violent act of a terrorist nature.” He added on the US social media platform X that “vigilance remains more than ever at a high level.”
