Americans in Portugal March Against Trump's Middle East War

(MENAFN) Nearly 200 American expatriates converged on Porto City Hall in Portugal on Saturday to voice their opposition to President Donald Trump's administration, directing particular anger at its escalating military operations across the Middle East in a demonstration that formed part of a sweeping wave of coordinated protests staged simultaneously in cities around the world.

The rally, organized by American volunteers living in Portugal, was designed to spotlight what participants described as a dangerous drift toward authoritarianism in Washington and to reaffirm the foundational importance of democratic governance, according to media.

Protest organizers framed the Porto event as one node in a broader, internationally synchronized effort to draw global attention to the policy direction of the Trump administration — both at home and abroad.

Among those who took to the microphone was Robert Glassburner, an American musician who has called Portugal home since 1983 and currently performs with the Casa da Música Symphony Orchestra in Porto. He delivered a pointed rebuke of Washington's conduct on the world stage and its domestic agenda alike.

"We are against these policies of the current U.S. government, both abroad and at home. And above all, against the war that is taking place in the Middle East. That war was ordered solely by Trump and was not authorized by Congress. The Constitution says that any military action must be approved by the United States Congress," said Glassburner.

Throughout the demonstration, crowds chanted slogans and raised concerns spanning a wide range of grievances tied to the current direction of American politics and governance.

The organizers concluded with a statement capturing the mood of the assembled crowd, saying the rally reflects the "frustration and alarm" felt by Americans living abroad over policies that "undermine democratic institutions and the rule of law."
