Uganda Warns It Would Enter Conflict if Israel Faces Defeat
(MENAFN) Uganda’s top military official stated on Wednesday that although the country desires an end to the Middle East conflict, it would side with Israel if the nation were threatened with defeat.
“We want the war in the Middle East to end now. The world is tired of it. But any talk of destroying or defeating Israel will bring us into the war — on the side of Israel,” said Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Uganda’s chief of defense forces and son of President Yoweri Museveni, on X.
The comments come amid rising regional tensions following recent US and Israeli strikes on Iran and retaliatory attacks in the area.
Kainerugaba has also recently attracted attention by announcing plans to erect a statue honoring Yonatan “Yoni” Netanyahu, the brother of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who died leading Israeli commandos during the 1976 Entebbe hostage rescue in Uganda.
Since late February, the conflict has escalated, with reports of significant casualties and ongoing drone and missile exchanges involving Israel and Iran, as well as broader impacts on neighboring countries.
