Iran Accuses US of Using Plan to Pursue War Goals

(MENAFN) Iran’s parliament speaker on Sunday accused the United States of attempting to advance its war objectives through a 15-point plan after failing to achieve them militarily, warning that any ground incursion would be met with a “decisive” response.

Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf wrote on Telegram that the US is “openly calling for negotiations while secretly planning a ground attack.” He emphasized that Iran is prepared for any ground operation and pledged a strong countermeasure against any such offensive.

“These days, different words and statements are heard from enemy officials about negotiations. America is expressing its desires and declaring what it has not achieved in war as a 15-point list and seeking it in diplomacy,” Qalibaf said.

Iran rejected a 15-point US plan for ending the conflict on Wednesday, stating that any ceasefire would occur solely on Tehran’s terms and schedule. According to state television citing an Iranian official, the country outlined five conditions for ending hostilities, including a complete cessation of “aggression and assassinations.”

The comments come amid reports of potential US plans for a ground operation in Iran, with thousands of US troops being deployed to the region pending a decision by President Donald Trump.

Since February 28, the US and Israel have carried out airstrikes on Iran, reportedly killing over 1,340 people, including then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. In retaliation, Iran has launched drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, as well as Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf nations hosting US military assets, resulting in casualties, infrastructure damage, and disruption to global markets and aviation.
