Kosovo Recalls Türkiye’s Support Ahead of World Cup Qualifiers

(MENAFN) The upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup European Qualifiers play-off final between Türkiye and Kosovo is being marked by a strong sense of friendship between the two nations and their football teams.

In the lead-up to the match, both countries have exchanged messages of goodwill. Kosovan Football highlighted the historic gesture by Türkiye during a 2014 friendly match, which took place before Kosovo was officially recognized by FIFA in 2016.

“Back in 2014, when no one would face us, Türkiye showed up. They played Kosovo away, before we were even recognized by FIFA—a gesture of respect and love we will never ever forget. 12 years later … we’re on our way to a World Cup final,” Kosovan Football wrote on its social media account, sharing images from the 2014 game.

Türkiye’s national team will visit Pristina, the capital of Kosovo, for the away match on March 31 in the play-off final of the 2026 FIFA World Cup European Qualifiers.

The two countries maintain strong diplomatic, cultural, and economic ties, exemplified by Pristina’s “Kosovo-Türkiye Friendship Park.” In the 2014 friendly, Türkiye defeated Kosovo 6-1 in an away match, a game remembered fondly by Kosovan fans for its symbolic significance.
