Attempted Attack on Bank of America in Paris Prompts French Investigation
(MENAFN) French anti-terrorism prosecutors have launched an investigation following a failed attempt to attack a Bank of America office in Paris, according to reports.
A man was detained late Friday night after attempting to ignite an explosive device outside the building, as stated by media sources.
Authorities intercepted the suspect holding a lighter near a container filled with an unknown liquid and a firecracker, which he had placed in front of the office. A second person reportedly escaped the scene.
The suspect reportedly told police that he had been brought to the location and recruited through the Snapchat app, with a promised payment of €600 ($692), according to reports.
The individual, who claims to have been born in 2009 and to be of Senegalese descent, is under investigation, as noted by reports.
The National Anti-Terrorist Prosecutor’s Office confirmed it is examining several alleged offenses, including attempted destruction by fire or dangerous means linked to terrorism, manufacturing incendiary or explosive devices, and participating in a terrorist conspiracy.
Interior Minister Laurent Nunez lauded the swift action by law enforcement, saying it “made it possible to thwart a violent act of a terrorist nature.”
“Vigilance remains more than ever at a high level,” he added on the social media platform X.
