Leaders of Pakistan, Iran Confer on Path to Peace in Middle East
(MENAFN) Pakistan’s Prime Minister Sharif held a phone conversation on Saturday with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to discuss ongoing mediation efforts aimed at resolving the escalating conflict in the Middle East, according to an official statement.
During the hour-long call — the second in recent days — Sharif briefed Pezeshkian on Pakistan’s diplomatic initiatives, which involve engaging the United States as well as Gulf and other Islamic nations to promote dialogue and de-escalation.
The prime minister reiterated Pakistan’s “strong” condemnation of continued Israeli attacks on Iran, including strikes targeting civilian infrastructure, and expressed solidarity with the “brave” people of Iran. “Expressed, once again, my condolences on the tragic loss of precious lives and prayed for the swift recovery of the injured and displaced,” he added.
Sharif also thanked the Iranian president for recognizing Pakistan’s “sincere efforts” to foster peace and dialogue, expressing hope that a “viable” path to end hostilities could be collectively achieved.
While acknowledging Islamabad’s diplomatic initiatives, Pezeshkian shared his perspective on the ongoing hostilities “perpetrated by Israel against Iran,” highlighting Iran’s concerns amid the conflict.
