PM Modi Inaugurates Noida Airport, NCR Gets Big Infra Boost
The opening of the new airport is set to benefit the local economy and boost industrial development in the region.
The Phase I of the airport has been developed at a total investment of around Rs 11,200 crore under a Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) model. The airport will initially have a passenger handling capacity of 12 million passengers per annum (MPPA) and eventually serve 70 MPPA upon full development.
The cargo facility of the airport is designed to handle over 2.5 lakh metric tonnes annually, expandable to around 18 lakh metric tonnes, and includes a dedicated 40-acre Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility.
In his inaugural address, PM Modi said that the airport will greatly benefit the surrounding region including districts like Agra, Mathura, Aligarh, Ghaziabad, Meerut, Itawa and Bulandshahr.
"This airport is going to bring many new opportunities for the West UP's farmers, small and medium-sized businesses and the youth. From here, aircraft will fly around the world, and along with this, it will also become the symbol of the flight of developed Uttar Pradesh," Modi said.
The areas around the new airport have already seen significant rise in real estate development with property prices going up.
"The upcoming Noida International Airport is set to play a pivotal role in reshaping NCR's aviation and urban landscape. As the region transitions towards two major airports, it will unlock and channelise new economic growth corridors. Over the next few years, we expect this to significantly enhance regional connectivity and drive more balanced urban expansion," said Shishir Baijal, International Partner, Chairman & MD, Knight Frank India.
The Greater Noida area already accounts for a significant share of NCR housing sales. As per real estate consultants, the annual residential sales in the region have expanded from 10,685 units in 2021 to nearly 13,000 units in 2025.
The Noida international airport now connects the greater Delhi area and Western Uttar Pradesh with other cities in India and the world.
Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL), a 100% subsidiary of Zurich Airport International AG, is responsible for developing Noida airport in close partnership with the Government of Uttar Pradesh and the Government of India. The concession period for Noida airport commenced on October 01, 2021, and will run for 40 years.
The Noida airport is planned as a multi-modal transport hub with seamless integration across road, rail, metro, and regional transit systems.
