India Engages Key Nations To Ensure Safe Energy Shipments Amid West Asia Tensions: MEA

(MENAFN- KNN India) New Delhi, Mar 28 (KNN) India is engaging with key countries to ensure the safe transit of its energy shipments amid ongoing tensions in West Asia, the government said on Friday.

Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal confirmed that four ships carrying liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) have safely reached India after crossing the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global energy route.

“We continue to be in touch with all concerned countries for the safe transit of our ships to meet our energy requirements," he added.

Addressing the weekly media briefing, Jaiswal said India's energy sourcing strategy is guided by the need to meet the requirements of its 1.4 billion population, while factoring in market dynamics and evolving global conditions, ANI reported.

Diplomatic Engagements at G7 Meet

Separately, Jaiswal noted, "Our External Affairs Minister is in Paris for G7 foreign ministers meeting. He's already had meetings with several foreign ministers, his counterparts, including France, Germany, South Korea, Japan, Brazil.”

During the meeting, Jaishankar addressed sessions on global governance, emphasising the need for reforms in the UN Security Council, improving peacekeeping operations, and strengthening humanitarian supply chains.

In a post on X, Jaishankar said, "Shared views about IMEC at the second session of the @G7 Foreign Ministers' Meeting with invited partners. The uncertainties arising from the conflicts in West Asia only make a stronger case for more resilient trade corridors and supply chains. At the same time, India's FTAs with the European Union, EFTA members and UK have enhanced the utility of IMEC.”

"Spoke at the @G7 Foreign Ministers' Meeting session with invited partners on reform of global governance. Highlighted the urgency of UNSC reforms, streamlining peacekeeping operations, and strengthening humanitarian supply chains. Specifically raised Global South's concerns about energy challenges, fertiliser supplies and food security," he said in another post on X.
