Turkish FM Holds Phone Talks on Recent Regional Developments
(MENAFN) Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan conducted a series of high-stakes diplomatic phone calls Friday, reaching out to counterparts across the region as the deadly conflict ignited by a joint US-Israeli offensive on Iran continues to spiral.
Fidan spoke separately with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, and US officials, Turkish diplomatic sources confirmed. The discussions centered on the rapidly deteriorating regional situation and ongoing efforts to bring the war to an end.
The flurry of diplomatic activity follows a dramatic escalation in hostilities that erupted on Feb. 28, when Washington and Tel Aviv launched a coordinated offensive against Iran — a strike that killed more than 1,340 people, among them then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
Tehran has since answered with waves of drone and missile attacks, striking Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf states housing US military installations. The retaliatory campaign has left a trail of casualties and widespread infrastructure damage, while sending shockwaves through global markets and severely disrupting international aviation routes.
Diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the conflict are intensifying, though no ceasefire has been announced.
