Pakistan Confirms Role in US-Iran Peace Talks
(MENAFN) Pakistan officially acknowledged Thursday its active role as an intermediary channeling communications between Washington and Tehran in efforts to bring the Middle East conflict to an end.
"There has been unnecessary speculation in the media regarding peace talks to end ongoing conflict in the Middle East," Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said on the US social media company X.
"In reality, US-Iran indirect talks are taking place through messages being relayed by Pakistan," said Dar, confirming that the US has shared 15 points which are "being deliberated upon by Iran."
The disclosure arrived as senior sources in Islamabad told media that the current week represented a pivotal window for any potential diplomatic breakthrough between the two powers. Those same sources indicated that Islamabad anticipates the arrival of a US delegation, while cautioning that Tehran remains guarded due to deeply entrenched mistrust.
Dar also extended recognition to the supporting roles played by regional actors, lauding "Türkiye and Egypt, among others" which are "extending their support to this initiative."
"Pakistan remains fully committed to promoting peace and continues to make every effort to ensure stability in the region and beyond," said Dar, emphasizing: "Dialogue and Diplomacy is the only way forward!"
The diplomatic push unfolds against a backdrop of sustained regional turmoil triggered by the joint US-Israeli military offensive against Iran on Feb. 28 — an operation that has killed more than 1,340 people, including then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
Tehran has responded with successive waves of drone and missile attacks aimed at Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf nations hosting American military forces, inflicting casualties, damaging critical infrastructure, and sending tremors through global markets and international air travel.
