US Airstrike Claims Lives of Fifteen PMF Fighters in Iraq’s Anbar

(MENAFN) Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) reported that a US strike on one of its operational sites on Tuesday killed 15 members, including Saad Duwa, the commander for the Anbar region, according to reports.

“The Popular Mobilization Forces mourn a group of heroic fighters who were killed alongside the Anbar Operations commander in the PMF, the martyred commander Dr. Saad Duwai, as a result of a treacherous US targeting that struck the operations headquarters,” the group said in a statement.

The PMF is an official Iraqi security umbrella formed in 2014 following a religious edict from top cleric Ali al-Sistani to combat the ISIS (Daesh) terrorist group and was later incorporated into Iraq’s armed forces by government decision in 2016.

Recent strikes against the group, which have caused numerous deaths and injuries, have occurred amid the ongoing war initiated by Israel and the United States on Iran since Feb. 28.
