Moldova’s Leader Signals Imminent Entry into Ukraine Peace Coalition
(MENAFN) Moldova may formally align itself with the growing coalition of willing nations seeking a durable peace settlement in Ukraine — and a potential multinational troop deployment — within a matter of weeks, President Maia Sandu announced Monday, according to a public broadcaster.
Sandu addressed reporters following a National Security Council session, highlighting that Moldova brings tangible capabilities to the table — particularly in demining — and stands ready to extend both training and specialized operational support to Ukraine.
"I want to remind you that the Republic of Moldova is already providing support to Ukraine in the form of demining training. And this is what we can do and what we have offered in case there is this final agreement of the members of the coalition of the willing for the Republic of Moldova to join," she said.
The coalition itself was formally proposed in March 2025, when British Prime Minister Keir Starmer unveiled plans to assemble a multinational force tasked with upholding any future peace agreement in Ukraine, with the United Kingdom and France positioned as lead nations driving the effort.
The initiative has since grown to encompass 35 countries, drawing in a broad alliance of European states alongside Japan.
