Russian Fuel Shipments Expected in Cuba After Months of Shortage

(MENAFN) Two vessels carrying Russian oil and gas are set to arrive in Cuba, marking the first such deliveries to the island in about three months, according to reports.

A ship flying a Hong Kong flag and believed to be transporting nearly 27,000 tonnes of Russian gas was expected to reach Cuba earlier this week. Meanwhile, another tanker, operating under a Russian flag and carrying around 100,000 metric tons of crude oil, is scheduled to arrive on April 4, based on information from maritime tracking sources.

The incoming shipments come as Cuba continues to face a serious energy crisis.

Reports indicate that the situation has worsened following disruptions in oil supplies from Venezuela, which has traditionally been Cuba’s main energy provider, contributing to significant strain on the country’s economy.

In addition, increasing external pressure and the threat of sanctions against alternative fuel suppliers have further limited Cuba’s access to energy resources, leading to frequent electricity outages across the country.
