Iran’s Political System Remains Resilient Despite Targeted Killings

(MENAFN) Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that the country’s political system remains strong despite the targeted killing of senior officials in US-Israeli attacks, emphasizing that such measures will not weaken the state’s foundations.

In an interview with Al Jazeera, Araghchi highlighted the resilience of the Islamic Republic’s political framework.

“I do not know why the Americans and the Israelis still have not understood this point: The Islamic Republic of Iran has a strong political structure with established political, economic and social institutions,” he said.

“The presence or absence of a single individual does not affect this structure,” he added.

While acknowledging that individuals can hold influential roles, Araghchi stressed that the overall strength of the system does not rely on any single figure.

“Of course, individuals are influential, and each person plays their role – some better, some worse, some less. But what matters is that the political system in Iran is a very solid structure,” he said.

His comments came after Iran confirmed that Ali Larijani, the secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, was killed in an Israeli strike on Tuesday.

Iran’s Supreme National Security Council stated that Larijani was killed along with his son, his aide Reza Bayat, and several companions.

The Israeli military said it had carried out the strike near Tehran overnight on Monday, killing Larijani.

Since February 28, Israel and the US have maintained a joint offensive on Iran, reportedly killing around 1,300 people, including then-Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

In retaliation, Iran has launched drone and missile attacks targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries hosting US forces, resulting in casualties, infrastructure damage, and disruptions to global markets and aviation.
