Rubio Holds Talks with UAE Official Following Iran Attacks
(MENAFN) US Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke with the UAE’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, following deadly attacks attributed to Iran, according to reports.
In a statement, Rubio conveyed his condolences for those killed during what were described as Iran’s “indiscriminate attacks” on the UAE. He also reiterated the United States’ commitment to safeguarding the security of the Emirates.
"The Secretary expressed his condolences for those killed in Iran’s indiscriminate attacks on the UAE, and reaffirmed the U.S. commitment to the security of the Emirates," the statement noted.
No further details regarding the conversation were released.
The situation in the Middle East has worsened since a joint US-Israel operation against Iran began on Feb. 28, reportedly resulting in around 1,300 casualties, including then-Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. In response, Iran has launched drone and missile strikes targeting Israel as well as Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf nations hosting US military assets, leading to both civilian and infrastructural losses while disrupting international markets and aviation.
