South Korea Partners with Six UN Agencies to Host AI Hub
(MENAFN) South Korea has signed a letter of intent with six United Nations agencies to establish an artificial intelligence hub in the country, as announced by the prime minister’s office Wednesday.
The signing ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Kim Min-seok, who is currently on a two-nation tour of the United States and Switzerland to advance South Korea’s bid to host the hub, according to reports.
The government describes the hub as a platform that will unite UN agencies with South Korea’s public and private sectors to develop AI-driven solutions for global challenges.
During his trip, Kim met with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and other agency leaders in New York. In Geneva, he held discussions with International Labor Organization (ILO) Director-General Gilbert Houngbo, International Organization for Migration (IOM) Director-General Amy Pope, and World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
In these meetings, Kim outlined Seoul’s aim to “help developing countries and vulnerable groups through global cooperation in AI,” according to his office. The UN agency heads expressed support for the initiative and agreed to continue discussions on implementation details.
Kim plans to present the project and report on the outcomes of his trip next Tuesday after returning to South Korea.
