Morocco Crowned AFCON 2025 Champions
(MENAFN) Morocco has been officially awarded the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title following the Confederation of African Football’s decision to overturn Senegal’s victory in the final, ruling that Senegal forfeited the match.
On Tuesday, CAF’s Appeal Board stated that, under Article 84 of the AFCON regulations, the Senegal national team is deemed to have forfeited the final of the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025.
As a consequence of this ruling, the game is formally recorded as a 3-0 win for the Federation Royale Marocaine de Football (FRMF).
The final, played on Jan. 18 in Rabat, initially ended with Senegal claiming a 1-0 win in extra time, following a chaotic stoppage late in regulation.
Senegal’s players left the field in protest after Morocco were awarded a penalty during stoppage time while the match remained scoreless.
After a delay of over 15 minutes, play resumed, and Morocco missed the penalty, before Senegal later scored the decisive goal in extra time.
Morocco’s football federation subsequently lodged an appeal, arguing that Senegal’s walk-off violated tournament regulations.
