KRG, US Explore Restart of Iraq’s Oil Flows via Turkey
(MENAFN) Masrour Barzani, prime minister of Iraq’s Kurdistan Regional Government, met with US Ambassador to Türkiye Tom Barrack on Tuesday to discuss efforts to resume Iraqi oil exports through Türkiye, along with ongoing negotiations between Erbil and Baghdad, according to reports.
In a post shared on the social platform X, Barzani indicated that the Kurdistan Region is prepared to facilitate the restart of exports.
“will allow the federal government to resume exports via our pipeline.”
He also called for continued US involvement in the discussions, particularly in a monitoring role regarding trade-related restrictions, as stated by reports.
Barrack expressed support for the progress made by both parties.
“Many thanks to Erbil and Baghdad for their work to reach agreement…to resume energy exports and improve prosperity for the region,” he said.
“The United States remains fully committed to supporting these important efforts.”
The discussions come as reports indicate that Baghdad and the Kurdistan Regional Government have reached an understanding to restart oil flows through Türkiye’s Ceyhan port, with shipments expected to resume in the near future.
