Saudi, UAE Officials Confer on Regional Security Amid Iranian Strikes
(MENAFN) Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan and UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan held discussions on the latest regional developments amid Iranian attacks, according to reports.
"During the call, they discussed the latest developments in the region in light of the continued unjustified Iranian attacks against the GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) countries and ways to strengthen the security and stability of the region," the Saudi Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
The UAE Foreign Ministry added that Sheikh Abdullah “held a series of calls” with several counterparts, including Prince Faisal, to address the repercussions of Iran’s actions.
"H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the officials strongly condemned" the attacks, the ministry said, noting that they “constitute a flagrant violation of international law and the Charter of the United Nations and pose a direct threat to the security and sovereignty of states, as well as regional stability."
The discussions also highlighted the need for enhanced international cooperation and joint efforts to maintain security and stability in the region, while supporting "the aspirations of the region’s peoples for inclusive development and sustainable economic prosperity," according to reports.
The talks occurred in the context of escalating hostilities following joint attacks on Iran by Israel and the United States on Feb. 28, which have resulted in roughly 1,300 deaths, including that of then-Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iran has responded with a series of drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries hosting US military assets.
