Paul Allan Elton

Paul Elton is a researcher, non-executive director, and adviser on nature conservation and climate action, living and working on Eora, Yuin, and Ngambri/Ngunnawal Country.
Paul is a full-time doctoral researcher with the ANU Fenner School of Environment and Society, researching means of achieving the goals and targets of the Global Biodiversity Framework in Australia.
Paul is also a non-executive director with Greening Australia, which works on restoration programs, nature-based solutions to climate change, and native seed production here in Australia; and with NatureCo, a global for-purpose business which works to deliver high-integrity and high-impact nature-based carbon projects in the Asia-Pacific, Africa, and Latin America.
Paul is an experienced non-executive director and chief executive officer with expertise in biodiversity conservation and climate action, and wide-ranging skills in leadership, strategy, policy, governance, and financial management. After five years in the private sector as an environmental engineer, Paul worked for over 25 years in portfolio and central agency roles with the NSW and Commonwealth governments, including 15 years as an Executive Director and CEO. At DPC, Paul shaped policy and managed reforms across 24 economic and natural resources portfolios. At PM&C, Paul drove regulatory and competition reforms, and water reforms, nationally. At the NSW Office of Environment and Heritage, Paul delivered reforms in nature conservation, energy efficiency, and climate change. He then led the newly created NSW Biodiversity Conservation Trust, developing ground-breaking approaches to private land conservation, and developing expertise in environmental markets and nature-based solutions to climate change.
