Pezeshkian Blames Regional Instability on US, Israeli Actions
(MENAFN) Iran’s president informed his French counterpart on Sunday that the most recent American strikes targeting Iranian islands had been carried out from the territory of several Gulf nations, according to Iranian media reports. Masoud Pezeshkian discussed the attacks on Kharg Island and Abu Musa Island while speaking by phone with French President Emmanuel Macron.
Statements published by a news agency indicated that Pezeshkian attributed the underlying causes of insecurity and instability across the region to “hostile actions by Israel and the United States.” He explained that these actions have significantly contributed to the growing tensions affecting the area.
The Iranian president also stressed that Iran and its military forces “had not sought escalation or conflict" but reaffirmed that the country would resolutely safeguard its territorial integrity as well as its national security against any threats.
According to the report, Macron emphasized the importance of bringing the conflict to an end and lowering tensions throughout the region. He highlighted the urgent need for diplomatic efforts aimed at restoring stability.
Later, writing on the platform X, the social media network owned by the US company X, Macron urged Iran to immediately halt its attacks against countries in the region, whether conducted directly or through proxy groups operating in Lebanon and Iraq.
Macron further stated that France is operating strictly within a defensive posture designed to protect its own interests, those of its regional allies, and the principle of freedom of navigation. He added that it is unacceptable for France to become a target in the ongoing tensions.
“The uncontrolled escalation we are witnessing is plunging the entire region into chaos with major consequences today and for years to come. The populations in Iran as everywhere in the region are the victims,” he said, stressing that establishing a new political and security framework would help guarantee lasting peace.
