Precautionary Flight Halt After Fire Near Dubai Airport
(MENAFN) Emergency crews from civil defense units managed to control and extinguish a blaze that erupted after a drone-related occurrence led to an impact on a fuel storage tank close to Dubai International Airport, authorities confirmed early Monday.
"No injuries have been reported," the Dubai Media Office said in a post on the US social media company X’s platform.
In a separate statement shared online, the office explained that the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority had briefly halted flight operations at Dubai International Airport "as a precautionary measure" to guarantee the safety of both personnel and travelers.
"Travelers are advised to contact their respective airlines for the latest updates regarding their flights. Further updates will be announced through official channels as soon as they become available," it said.
Earlier announcements from the office indicated that officials were "responding to a fire resulting from a drone-related incident in the vicinity of Dubai International Airport" that had affected a fuel tank in the surrounding area.
The incident occurred amid escalating regional tensions following joint military strikes conducted by Israel and the United States against Iran on Feb. 28, which have reportedly resulted in around 1,300 deaths to date, including the then-Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
In response, Iran has launched retaliatory drone and missile attacks aimed at Israel, Jordan, Iraq, as well as Gulf states that host United States military facilities.
