US Evacuates Non-Essential Personnel from Oman Citing Safety Concerns
(MENAFN) The United States on Friday directed non-emergency government personnel and their family members to depart Oman due to escalating safety concerns, according to reports.
The State Department Bureau of Consular Affairs also advised American citizens to reconsider traveling near Oman’s border with Yemen amid growing tensions in the Middle East.
“Following the onset of hostilities between the United States and Iran on February 28, there has been an ongoing threat of drone and missile attacks from Iran and significant disruptions to commercial flights,” the statement said.
The travel advisory comes as the region experiences heightened conflict following joint US and Israel strikes on Iran on Feb. 28, which have reportedly resulted in approximately 1,300 deaths, including the country’s then-supreme leader, Ali Khamenei.
In retaliation, Iran has launched drone and missile attacks against Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf nations hosting US military facilities. Reports indicate these strikes have caused casualties, damaged civilian infrastructure, and disrupted global markets and aviation.
