France Rejects US, Israeli Attacks on Iran

(MENAFN) France "cannot approve" strikes by US and Israeli forces on Iran, asserting that they are conducted outside international law and lack well-defined objectives, Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot stated on Tuesday.

In an interview with a news agency, Barrot criticized the military actions, noting that the operations are devoid of clear strategic purposes and do not align with international legal norms.

He emphasized that France remains uninvolved in the hostilities.

“We do not approve of this war, and we are not participating in it,” he affirmed, highlighting Paris’s stance of non-engagement.

Barrot further urged for swift de-escalation in the Middle East and called on Iran to adjust its regional behavior.

“We expect Iran to renounce being a destabilizing and dangerous power,” he said, underscoring the need for Tehran to alter its approach.

He insisted that Iran must embrace “a radical change of posture and major concessions” to open the door for a sustainable resolution in the region.

Additionally, Barrot mentioned that several nations have expressed interest in joining an international defense effort to protect the Strait of Hormuz, a proposal recently referenced by French President Emmanuel Macron.

The minister indicated that potential contributors include “a number of European countries but also countries in the region.”
