Azerbaijan Thanks US for Condemning Drone Attack on Nakhchivan
(MENAFN) Azerbaijan expressed gratitude on Saturday for a statement from the United States condemning a drone strike on the Nakhchivan exclave, which injured four people earlier this week.
The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said it valued Washington’s statement as a demonstration of “support for its partners.” Officials noted that the US position aligns fully with the “letter and spirit” of the strategic partnership charter signed between the two countries on Feb. 10.
“On such a tense period, many countries have demonstrated their support and solidarity with Azerbaijan. We are grateful to each and every one of them. Obviously, the support shown by the United States, the most powerful country in the world, carries particular significance,” the ministry said. “We express our gratitude to the United States for the demonstrated principled position.”
Earlier on Saturday, the US State Department principal deputy spokesperson Tommy Pigott stated that the US "strongly" condemned the drone attack, describing it as a “flagrant violation of Azerbaijan’s sovereignty and a needless escalation of Iran’s aggression.”
According to reports, the drones that struck Nakhchivan were launched from Iran. The attack caused injuries to four individuals and damaged the region’s international airport.
