Israeli Warplanes Strike Key Oil Sites in Tehran
(MENAFN) Israeli fighter jets carried out airstrikes on oil storage depots and refining facilities in Tehran on Saturday evening, according to reports.
The strikes represent the first time such energy infrastructure in Iran’s capital has been targeted since Israel launched a wider military offensive against Iran last week in coordination with the United States.
In a statement, the Israeli military announced that it had initiated another round of attacks focused on key infrastructure within the capital.
According to reports, the Israeli Air Force carried out strikes on oil storage installations and refinery facilities in Tehran.
At the same time, reports from Iran indicated that multiple explosions were heard across parts of the city shortly after the strikes took place.
Following the attack on the refinery in Tehran, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said missiles were launched toward the Haifa refinery in Haifa, according to reports.
Tensions across the region have escalated since the United States and Israel began a major military assault on Iran on Feb. 28. According to reports, the attacks have resulted in the deaths of more than 1,000 people, including Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, more than 150 schoolgirls, and several senior military officials.
In retaliation, Iran has launched extensive missile and drone barrages targeting American bases, diplomatic facilities, and military personnel throughout the region, as well as several cities in Israel.
