Explosion Near US Embassy in Oslo Causes Minor Damage

(MENAFN) An early-morning blast occurred at the United States Embassy in Oslo on Sunday, resulting in limited structural harm but leaving no one injured, according to Norwegian law enforcement authorities.

In an official release from the Norwegian Police Service (Politiet), officers were dispatched in significant numbers to the vicinity of the US Embassy located in the Huseby neighborhood in western Oslo. The deployment followed multiple reports from residents about a powerful noise heard at approximately 1 a.m. local time (0000 GMT).

Police confirmed that they are coordinating with representatives at the embassy and emphasized that no casualties have been recorded as a result of the incident.

Officials later verified that the explosion took place close to the embassy building, specifically near the consular entrance. Despite the incident, authorities noted that the level of damage sustained by the facility was relatively minor.

“Several reports of a bang were received around 01:00 am. We arrived shortly afterward and confirmed that an explosion had occurred that struck the US Embassy,” police incident commander Michael Dellemyr told a Norwegian broadcaster.

Dellemyr explained that the detonation caused only slight damage. However, he added that authorities are not yet providing details about the exact nature of the damage or the cause of the blast because the inquiry is still in its preliminary phase.

Officials also indicated that law enforcement teams are currently searching for one or more individuals who may be involved, while forensic specialists examine the scene and investigators speak with potential witnesses.

Police further stated that security sweeps conducted in the area surrounding the embassy have not revealed any signs of additional explosive devices or further threats nearby.
