Qatar Reports Shooting Down 9 of 10 Iranian Drones
(MENAFN) Qatar confirmed early Saturday that its air defenses intercepted nine of ten Iranian attack drones, with the remaining one falling in an uninhabited area without causing any casualties or damage.
In an official statement, the Qatari Defense Ministry revealed the country had come under a ten-drone assault originating from Iran beginning at dawn, marking the latest escalation in a rapidly widening regional conflict.
Nine drones were successfully neutralized, the ministry said, while the tenth posed no threat upon landing in a deserted area. Qatari authorities moved swiftly to reassure the public, stressing the nation's military readiness.
The statement said Qatari forces have the necessary capabilities and resources to protect the country's sovereignty and territory, urging the public and visitors to remain calm and follow official instructions.
The attack is part of a broader Iranian offensive that began Feb. 28, in which Tehran has launched waves of missiles and drones targeting Israel and Gulf states hosting US military installations. Several strikes have caused casualties and inflicted damage on civilian infrastructure, including ports and residential buildings.
Iran maintains the campaign is a direct retaliation for a US-Israeli military offensive against Iranian territory — one that has claimed hundreds of lives, among them Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and senior military commanders.
