Lavrov Urges Diplomatic Resolution to Afghan-Pakistani Tensions
(MENAFN) Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stressed the importance of resolving ongoing tensions between Islamabad and Kabul through diplomacy during a phone call on Friday with acting Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi.
According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, Lavrov and Muttaqi exchanged views on the broader regional situation, including the “negative and destabilizing consequences of the aggression against Iran.”
“They discussed prospects for reducing military and political tensions in Afghan-Pakistani relations,” the statement said.
Lavrov also highlighted the “need to resolve differences between Kabul and Islamabad through political and diplomatic means,” the statement added.
Relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan have worsened in recent weeks, with border tensions escalating last week and resulting in casualties and property damage.
