Asian Countries Evacuate Hundreds of Nationals Amid Mideast Tensions

(MENAFN) Several Asian countries have begun evacuating their citizens from the Middle East as the security situation worsens following strikes carried out by the United States and Israel against Iran, according to reports on Saturday.

Authorities from China and South Korea are among those organizing efforts to bring their nationals to safety as tensions rise across the region.

Chinese officials coordinated an evacuation plan that allowed more than 260 citizens to leave Iran by crossing the border into Azerbaijan with assistance from the Chinese embassy.

Meanwhile, South Korea has been supporting its citizens across several countries in the region. A group of 65 South Koreans located in Qatar were transferred to Saudi Arabia, while 41 individuals departed Jordan on commercial flights with help from diplomatic staff stationed in Amman.

Additional citizens were moved from Kuwait, Bahrain, Israel, and Iraq to nearby countries as part of ongoing relocation efforts.

Officials in Seoul are also preparing a charter flight to repatriate citizens stranded in the United Arab Emirates. The aircraft, operated by Etihad Airways, is scheduled to depart from Abu Dhabi on Sunday and has the capacity to carry about 290 passengers. Roughly 3,000 South Koreans remain in the UAE after flight disruptions affected travel.

At the same time, Australia has advised its nationals in the region to depart using available commercial flights while it remains possible to do so.

The security crisis intensified after the United States and Israel launched a large-scale military operation against Iran last Saturday. The strikes reportedly resulted in more than 1,000 deaths, including Iran’s supreme leader Ali Khamenei, over 150 schoolgirls, and senior military figures.

In response, Iran has carried out extensive retaliatory attacks involving drones and missiles, targeting U.S. military bases, diplomatic missions, and personnel throughout the region, as well as several cities in Israel.

The cycle of attacks has continued to intensify, further heightening fears of a broader regional conflict.
