Jordan Lifts Partial Closure of Airspace to Civilian Flights

(MENAFN) Jordan lifted a partial closure of its airspace to all civilian traffic Tuesday following a security assessment, the country's aviation authority confirmed, as regional tensions continue to escalate in the wake of strikes on Iran.

The Jordanian Civil Aviation Regulatory Commission (CARC) announced the decision, with Chief Commissioner Dhaifallah Alfarajat stating the move restored full access for arriving, departing, and overflying aircraft after a suspension that had been in place since Monday evening.

Alfarajat said the reopening followed a coordinated risk assessment and met the highest international aviation safety benchmarks, emphasizing that passenger and crew safety remain the commission's foremost priority. Technical teams would remain on active monitoring duty across the region and stand ready to enforce further precautionary measures as conditions evolve, he added.

CARC had originally imposed the partial, temporary overnight closure Monday, halting all inbound, outbound, and transit flights through Jordanian airspace.

The suspension came in direct response to rapidly deteriorating regional security. On Saturday, the United States and Israel launched a large-scale coordinated strike against Iran. Tehran responded with retaliatory attacks targeting sites inside Israel and U.S. military installations across Gulf states — including Jordan — sharply raising the risk calculus for civilian aviation across the region.
