Saudi Arabia Reports Repelling Nine Drones

(MENAFN) Saudi Arabia intercepted and destroyed nine drones that breached its airspace early Wednesday, the kingdom's Defense Ministry confirmed, marking the latest escalation to strike Gulf nations amid the widening regional conflict.

The drones were neutralized immediately upon entering Saudi airspace, the ministry announced in a post published on X, the US social media platform.

The incursion is the latest in a growing pattern of aerial attacks rippling across the Gulf since US and Israeli forces launched sweeping strikes against Iran on Saturday — an offensive that killed nearly 800 people, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and senior military commanders.

Tehran has responded with a sustained retaliatory campaign, unleashing waves of drones and ballistic missiles against Israel and Gulf states that host US military assets, steadily drawing more of the region into the line of fire.

Riyadh's successful intercept underscores the mounting pressure on Gulf nations to defend their airspace as Iran's retaliatory strikes grow both in frequency and geographic reach — with no immediate signs of de-escalation on the horizon.
