Over 9,000 U.S. Citizens Evacuated from Middle East, Trump Says
(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump announced Tuesday that more than 9,000 American citizens have been successfully brought home from a Middle East region reeling from the fallout of US-Israeli strikes on Iran and Tehran's escalating retaliatory campaign.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump urged any remaining US nationals in the region to register their whereabouts with federal authorities and take advantage of government-arranged transportation.
"If you are a US Citizen in the Middle East, and you want to come home, please register with the State Department at Step.State.Gov.," Trump wrote.
"The Department will identify where you are, and provide travel options to you. We are already chartering flights, free of charge, and booking commercial options, which we expect will become increasingly available as time goes on," he added.
The evacuation push comes as the region teeters on the edge of broader conflict. The US and Israel launched large-scale strikes on Iran on Saturday, killing nearly 800 people — among them Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and senior military officials. Tehran has since unleashed waves of drone and missile attacks against Israel and Gulf nations hosting US military assets.
The human cost for American forces has already proven significant. US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed that six US service members were killed and several others wounded after an Iranian strike struck a tactical operations center in Kuwait during the ongoing operation.
