Iran Closes Strait of Hormuz, Threatens Ships Attempting Passage
(MENAFN) Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced Monday that the Strait of Hormuz has been shut to maritime traffic, cautioning that any vessel attempting to pass through the key waterway would face military action.
Brig. Gen. Ebrahim Jabbari, a senior adviser to the IRGC’s commander-in-chief, said in comments broadcast on state television that Tehran would block transit through the strait as a response to ongoing US-Israeli strikes.
“The Strait of Hormuz has been closed. We will attack and set ablaze any ship attempting to cross,” Jabbari said.
He further warned that oil infrastructure, including pipelines, could become targets and declared that Iran would not permit “a single drop of oil” to be exported from the region.
