Russia Says FSB Foils Terrorist Plot Targeting Defense Executive

(MENAFN) Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) reported on Tuesday that its special units successfully prevented an attempted “terrorist attack” targeting an executive at a defense company.

In a statement, the FSB said the suspect was in the process of being apprehended by special forces when “his Ukrainian handler remotely detonated the IED (Improvised explosive device), resulting in fatal injuries.”

The FSB indicated that the attack was orchestrated by a 40-year-old Russian citizen traveling with a “fake passport” and acting “on instructions from Ukrainian intelligence services.”

“During an inspection of the crime scene, a second IED, disguised as a power bank, was seized. It contained 300 grams of plastic explosive, a foreign-made electric detonator and a radio-activated actuator,” the statement added.

Authorities also recovered “the suspect’s telephone, containing correspondence with a Ukrainian intelligence officer, and a fake Russian passport,” according to the release.

A criminal case has been initiated on charges of preparing a “terrorist act.”
