Kazakhstan’s President Voices Concern Over Mideast Escalation

(MENAFN) Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on Sunday expressed deep concern over the escalating conflict in the Middle East during separate phone calls with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Qatari Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the presidential press service Akorda reported.

Tokayev condemned Iran’s attacks on civilian infrastructure in the UAE and other Gulf countries, noting the damage caused and emphasizing Kazakhstan’s support and readiness to assist the UAE if needed. He reaffirmed the country’s respect, solidarity, and friendship toward the UAE and its people.

President Al Nahyan expressed appreciation for Kazakhstan’s support and willingness to help during the crisis. Similarly, Tokayev pledged firm support and solidarity to Qatar, with Emir Al Thani thanking Kazakhstan and reaffirming the strength of Kazakh-Qatari relations and their strategic partnership.

The calls followed a joint US-Israeli strike on Iran on Saturday, which killed several top officials, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iran retaliated with missile and drone attacks targeting US assets and Gulf countries. A similar US-Israeli operation in June previously triggered a 12-day conflict before a ceasefire was reached.
