King Abdullah Holds Talks with Leaders to De-Escalate Regional Tensions

(MENAFN) His Majesty King Abdullah of Jordan spoke on Sunday with Arab and international leaders regarding the escalating regional crisis and explored ways to reduce tensions and restore stability, according to reports.

During a call with UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, the two leaders discussed strategies to achieve “comprehensive calm in the region.” The King condemned the recent attacks on Jordan and other Arab nations, warning of their broader implications for regional security. He emphasized that current developments “require effective action by the international community to de-escalate tensions.”

Prime Minister Starmer condemned Iran’s attacks on Jordan and other Arab partners of the UK, expressing his country’s support and solidarity with the affected nations.

In another conversation with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, King Abdullah urged coordinated efforts to restore calm across the region. He condemned attacks targeting Jordanian territory and Arab states, stressing that the Kingdom “will take all necessary measures to preserve its security, stability, and ensure the safety of its citizens.”

President von der Leyen described the strikes as “unjustified attacks, which constitute a violation of state sovereignty and international law,” and reaffirmed the European Union’s support for Jordan and its regional partners.

Additionally, King Abdullah discussed the recent dangerous developments with Pakistan Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif during a separate phone call on Sunday.
